Flower Essences for Animals?
Anyone who has a pet or works with animals knows that they can suffer with emotional as well as behavioural problems. They can experience a similar range of responses as us, such as fear, rage, jealousy, sadness and anxiety. That is where Flower Essences can gently help.
Flower Essences are now widely used by vets, animal behaviourists and people with their pets to help promote balanced and well-adjusted behaviour ~ naturally. In orthodox medicine there is little help for animals in this area and the few conventional treatments there are can leave them with unwanted side effects such as drowsiness. This is where flower essences are different because they can help gently soothe an animal without masking their true nature.
At Creature Comforters UK we have, over the past 25 years, reported an approximate 80% success rate with effectively addressing a wide range of challenging emotional and behavioural problems in animals. Importantly the 'Placebo Effect' is, of course, wholly extraneous with regard to animals.
The small number of cases that we are unable to address are usually helped by a change in circumstances/treatment and/or behaviour training. Also Flower Essence therapy can be a good support when used in conjunction with advice from a qualified animal behaviourist or by attending animal training classes - where appropriate. Many animal trainers recommend our products to their clients, especially for those animals who display behaviours which are difficult to solve with training alone.
Flower Essence therapy can also be particularly beneficial for animals that have been traumatised by an event in their past, such as neglect, abuse, bad-handling or inappropriate treatment/training by previous owners. In complex cases such as this we recommend a consultation for a Personalised Blend.
Our natural & gentle Blends are suitable for animals of all ages - from young to old - and for every type of animal:
DOGS, CATS, HORSES, RABBITS, REPTILES, BIRDS, CATTLE etc.
Creature Comforters use a carefully chosen combination of Bach Flower Remedies and other important Flower Essences (the 'CCFE') as the ingredients for our Pet Blends and our Blends for People.
We have decades of experience as Flower Essence Practitioners gaining valuable knowledge on which Remedies and Essences are suited to which particular emotional or behavioural problem in our clients, be they people, or every type of animal: dogs, cats, birds, horses, reptiles. The detailed case studies we have gathered over the years, and the thousands of clients we've helped, has enabled us to choose the optimum combination of Remedies and Essences ('Mother Tinctures') as ingredients for our special Flower Essence Blends.
The Blends we have created are for the six most common emotional and behavioural problems experienced by animals, and for four of the most frequently experienced transitory mood problems in people.
Our special range of Flower Essence Blends have been shown to help soothe such problems in people and animals. They are natural, gentle, effective and easy to use. For people and pets of all ages.
We make and bottle all our products by hand, there is no machinery; no conveyor belts; no automated robots employed in the making of our Blends and Remedies!
Each and every bottle is made with dedicated care and attention.

You can help calm your pet with the Relax Blend...
For Travel For a short journey give your pet a few drops just before leaving and, if necessary, during the journey. For a long journey add drops to small treats and give 3 times daily in the few days leading up to travel. Also give during the journey, if your pet is stressed.
For a visit to the Vets Many animals find this a frightening experience so put a few drops on a small treat and give that to your pet half an hour before the appointment. If your pet is particularly frightened you may want to give a few more dosages, 10 minutes apart. (If your pet isn't having an operation and is allowed to eat and drink of course).
After an Accident If your pet has injured him/her self then put a few drops on a small treat and give that to your pet. The Relax Blend is not a cure but it can help to take the edge off the emotional shock and trauma. (If your pet is unable to take treats see tips below.) The Relax Blend can also be used to help soothe your pet as they recover from illness or injury.
For Show Nerves and 'Ring Shy' Some dogs can find the hustle and bustle of the show ring all a bit overwhelming and scary. To help prepare your dog for the 'big day' put a few drops on a small treat and give 3 times daily, for 3 days leading up to the show. On the day of the show give a few drops whenever they are stressed. Relax Blend can help to calm horses in the show ring too. Your pet will remain alert and active - the Relax Blend helps ease the stress.
For a visit to the Groomers For some dogs a visit to the grooming parlour can be a confusing and sometimes scary experience. So put a few drops on a small treat and give that to your dog half an hour before the appointment. If your dog is particularly frightened you may want to give a few more dosages, 10 minutes apart.
For helping injured wild animals If you find an injured wild animal give them a few drops of Relax Blend. For example, if you are caring for an injured bird, put one drop on their beak, every 30 minutes. This can help to take the edge of the emotional shock and trauma.
'There are so many occasions when you'll want the calming qualities of the Relax Blend.
Every pet owner should have a bottle to hand.
First-Aid for feelings!'
You can help settle your pet with the Comfort Blend...
For a stay at the Kennels or Cattery To help settle your cat or dog into a stay at a cattery or kennels give them the Comfort Blend by adding drops to their food or treats, 3 times daily for up to 10 days prior to their stay. This will help prepare them for the unsettled feelings and anguish of separation anxiety. Remember to give the owners of the kennels/cattery a bottle of Comfort Blend to give to your pet whilst in their care.
For Bereavement or Loss - Pining As a pet owner you'll know that animals can feel the anguish of bereavement - just as humans do. We 'grieve' - animals 'pine'. They can become confused and unsettled when they lose a companion, be that an owner or an animal friend. To soothe your pet and to help them accept the loss, and change in situation, give the Comfort Blend daily, in the few weeks following a bereavement.
For Changes Animals can find it difficult to adjust to changes such as a sudden new addition to the family: a new kitten or puppy; a new baby or a new family member. They can feel unsettled by house renovations, when you 'have the builders in' or are doing a big re-decorate! Some can also can find it hard to adjust if their physical ability is reduced because of illness, injury or old age. The Comfort Blend can help to calm the unsettled feelings experienced by a change of any sort.
For Re-homing Whether it's a horse being sold-on to a new owner, or a rescue dog preparing for a new home, or a cat who has lost its elderly owner and must be re-homed with a new family - all may need help settling into their new environment. Give the Comfort Blend daily, and finish the whole bottle, to help them more easily adjust to their new surroundings.
For Rescue Animals Animals in a Rescue Home fit all the criteria for the Comfort Blend. They may be suffering from Separation anxiety, bereavement and loss, whilst also having to adjust to a strange, unfamiliar environment. To help them settle give drops of Comfort Blend daily and finish the whole bottle - like a course of treatment.
And when they find a new family, don't forget to send them off with a bottle of Comfort Blend to help them settle into their new home!
Also, if you have just got a new pet from a rescue home you can help them settle-in by giving them a bottle of Comfort Blend.
You can help boost your pet's confidence with the
For Socialization and General Nervousness Some dogs have a nervous disposition and find it scary meeting other animals or strangers. They can have seemingly irrational phobias and fears of objects or sounds. To help calm their nerves and enhance confidence give them a bottle of Courage Blend. Give drops daily - like a course of treatment - and finish the whole bottle.
Suitable for any nervous animal - cats, horses, dogs etc.
For Show Nerves and 'Ring Shy' Some dogs can find the hustle and bustle of the show ring all a bit overwhelming and scary. To help prepare your dog for the 'big day' and give them more confidence give them a bottle of Courage Blend in the few weeks leading up to the show.
For a visit to the Groomers For some dogs a visit to the grooming parlour can be a confusing and sometimes scary experience. So give them a bottle of Courage Blend to help calm their nerves. Give drops daily - like a course of treatment - and finish the whole bottle.
Article by Jane Stevenson, founder of Creature Comforters UK
Studies have shown that caring for a pet can reduce stress levels. The owners can be happier, healthier and even live longer than people without an animal companion. In my own experience, as someone passionate about animals, I have found that there are few better ways to start your day than with an invigorating walk with your dog who, wide awake, and staring at you with those pleading eyes, is raring to go!
Our pets are entirely reliant on us for their well being. We readily take care of their physical needs, but what if they are unhappy? It is easy to forget that we are also responsible for their emotional care.
Bramble the dog, Ester the cat, Meg the dog and Rupert the horse
Animals are thought to experience the same breadth of emotions as humans, including the negative ones. Unable to express how they feel or to understand what is happening to them, the animals reaction to difficulties may be communicated through antisocial behavior, such as fear, destructiveness or aggression. Unfortunately the true reason for this behavior often goes unrecognised. Until recently this area of animals welfare was generally overlooked, as conventional treatments often do not cater for emotional problems. However, I have been helping animals with flower essences for over 35 years, and have found them to be a very effective and safe answer to this area of caring for our pets. These essences are used to calm the emotions, lift spirits and bring out the animals full potential. Animals seem to respond remarkably quickly to their therapeutic effects. Perhaps this is because they are innately free of complicated human thought processes and so the placebo effect is not an issue. Experience has shown that in certain situations essences may need to be used in conjunction with sensible training or other treatments. However, we must understand that each animal has a unique personality; they are free spirits and a certain amount of instinctive behaviour is normal.
Flower essences have been quietly helping animals for years, and are only now becoming mainstream. They offer immeasurable benefits to our animal friends who, like us, are living with the challenging side-effects of life in the 21st Century.
